Labour to throw switch on Kiwirail diesel plans

THE LABOUR PARTY has told KiwiRail that if elected next month it will halt State-owned rail company’s plans to ditch electric locomotives on the main trunk line.

The move is part of the party’s transport policy, announced yesterday by transport which includes funding for a passenger train service between Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga.
