Ten years ago, the National Party was signing up to the Emissions Trading Scheme after voting against it the previous year.

Agriculture minister David Carter told Carbon News that an emissions trading scheme was the newly elected National Government’s preferred option for putting some price control on greenhouse gas emissions.

As a concept, at least; the National Government was about to put in place changes to the scheme that would limit carbon prices and exclude the agricultural sector and halve the carbon liability of other emitters.

The ETS was introduced in 2008 by the Labour Government as an all-gases, all-sectors scheme. | Read the story here
