Ten years ago, Business New Zealand was considering asking the Government to delay the Emissions Trading Scheme and put a carbon tax in place in the interim.

The scheme had been introduced the previous year by the Labour-led Government. The National Party had voted against the scheme and announced a review of it when it took power in late 2008.

In a draft submission seen by Carbon News, Business New Zealand said that while it supported an ETS, letting the scheme go ahead in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis could cost New Zealand tens of thousands of jobs. | Read the story here
