Farming in ETS good move, says forestry expert

AGRICULTURE should be brought into the Emissions Trading Scheme as soon as possible – and farmers be given the opportunity to make money from it, the Government has been told.

The sector is exempt from liability under the decade-old scheme, but a committee of experts is considering whether it should be subject to a carbon price, as are other emitters.


Earlier this month, finance minister Grant Robertson said the Government was committed to putting a price on greenhouse gas emissions from carbon.
