Ten years ago, the farming sector was split over how New Zealand should deal with agricultural emissions, with Federated Farmers pushing for a carbon tax and the meat industry saying the Emissions Trading Scheme was a better option.

The sector was due to come into the ETS in 2013, but this was delayed indefinitely as a result of reviews in 2009 and 2011.

Earlier this week, the Government received a report with the Interim Climate Change Committee’s recommendations on whether the sector should come into the ETS. It has yet to be released.
