It pays off to pay landowners to keep trees

PAYING landowners not to cut down trees is cheaper than the carbon-related costs the destruction of the forests would cause, new research shows.

Curbing deforestation in low-income countries, where most deforestation is happening, is one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce global carbon dioxide emissions.
