Synethic gases net taxpayers $12 million

THE GOVERNMENT has collected nearly $12 million in levies for synthetic greenhouse gases imported into the country over the past year.
Synthetic gases like hydrofluorocarbons and perfluorocarbons are subject to the Emissions Trading Scheme, but are covered by specific import levies instead of carbon credits.
